[Kochi City] Shikoku Pilgrimage No. 31 Temple🙏

There is also a bus stop called Chikurinji-Mae, but it runs once an hour, so you can get off at the higher-placed Godai Observatory and go down from there to easily access the back of Chikurinji. ✨

This temple is also the 31st temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage.
There was also a pilgrim there.
The main hall is the Monju-do Hall, which enshrines Manjusri Bodhisattva.
It is also designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The principal image here is said to be one of the three great Manjusri in Japan 🤔 (the other two are Kirido Manjusri in Kyoto and Abe Manjusri in Nara).

There is also a 31m tall five-story pagoda made entirely of cypress,

a single word Jizo and a lucky maneki-neko 😊

Also, within the temple grounds, there is the quietly standing Hiyoshi Shrine ⛩,

pay attention to the lion dogs enshrined in front of the torii gate 👀

At first glance, they look like the usual lion dogs, but both the left and right are parent and child lion dogs with children 🐶

What's more, the child on the left is lying on his back,

as if he's playing and giggling ☺️

It's sure to warm your heart!

I just dropped by, but it was a very nice place, so I would definitely recommend it to anyone heading to Mt. Godai👍

By the way, Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden is also next door, so if you want to see everything, you'll need half a day just in the Mt. Godai area🤓
