Japan's 100 Greatest Castles - Kofu Castle Ruins

#5月好去地方2025
The Kofu Castle ruins are a historical site located in the center of Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, also known as the "Maizuru Castle". It was built in the late 16th century by Kato Mitsuyasu, a senior official of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and was later taken over by the Tokugawa Shogunate. It was one of the important strongholds for ruling Kai Province. Although the castle tower no longer exists, the stone walls and castle ruins are well preserved. Now it is open as the "Maizuru Castle Park", which is a good place for citizens and travelers to take a walk and enjoy the scenery.

Entering the castle ruins park, you can see the towering stone wall ruins, turrets, and moat ruins. In particular, the Inari turret and iron gate have been restored and rebuilt. You can enter the exhibition space to learn about the history of the castle and the construction methods. From the Honmaru ruins, you can also overlook the entire Kofu city and Mount Fuji and the Southern Alps in the distance. The view is very broad.

In spring, cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and the entire castle ruins become a cherry blossom viewing spot; in autumn, there are also red leaves embellished, making it a historical attraction suitable for all seasons.
