Koh Tao, Koh Phangan District, Surat Thani Province

Location: Located in Koh Phangan District, Surat Thani Province, near Koh Nang Yuan

Size: Approximately 21 square kilometers, shaped like a bean

The name "Koh Tao" comes from the large number of sea turtles that once laid their eggs on the beach.

History: The island was once uninhabited and served as a prison for political prisoners from 1943–1944 before becoming a tourist attraction in later times.

Highlights: There are over 20 dive sites around the island, suitable for snorkeling, scuba diving, and freediving.

Popular beaches: Sairee Beach, Mae Haad Bay, Chalok Baan Kao Bay, Freedom Beach, and Koh Nang Yuan.

Tourist Season: Year-round, but only during November–December, there are slight monsoons.
