Konpira Shrine (commonly known as Konpira-san) is a shrine located on the middle of Mount Zozu in Kotohira-cho, Kagawa Prefecture, and is known as the guardian deity of maritime safety. There are 785 stone steps on the approach to the shrine, and 1,368 steps to the inner shrine. On the way up, historical buildings such as Asahisha, Shoin, and Treasure Museum are scattered, entertaining worshippers. In particular, in Shoin, you can view the sliding screen paintings by Maruyama Okyo and Ito Jakuchu. Souvenir shops and restaurants line the approach to the shrine, where you can taste the famous Kamiyo candy and Sanuki udon. There are also many cultural attractions in the surrounding area, such as the former Konpira Grand Theater (Kanamaruza), making it a spot where you can enjoy history and culture.
