The Royal Selangor Club, located next to Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, has always been a gathering place for social elites.

Adjacent to the club is the Independence Square, which is a wide lawn. Every year on August 31st, Malaysian citizens gather here to celebrate the country's Independence Day.

Looking back at history, at midnight on August 31, 1957, the British flag was slowly lowered over this land, and the Malayan flag was raised for the first time, marking the country's independence. At the south end of the square stands a 95-meter-high flagpole, which is the tallest flagpole in Kuala Lumpur.
