Visit the top of the Shengqi Tower for panoramic views of Nanjing, explore the surrounding historical area, take photographs of the iconic structure, and enjoy the nearby scenic parks and gardens.

Shengqi Tower, located in Mochou Lake Park, is where Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, and Xu Da, the King of Zhongshan, played chess. The two-story, five-bay building features exquisite carvings. A chess table stands in the center of the main entrance, and Xu Da's portrait still hangs inside
Legend has it that Zhu Yuanzhang and Xu Da often played chess here. Xu Da was a skilled chess player, but he always lost. Zhu Yuanzhang, realizing he was deliberately losing, insisted Xu Da put aside his worries and play with confidence. When Zhu Yuanzhang captured two of his opponent's pieces in a row, feeling elated, Xu Da asked him to examine the board . Unexpectedly, the pieces formed the Chinese character " Long Live " (万歲) . Delighted, Zhu Yuanzhang gifted the building, along with Mochou Lake, to Xu Da, hence the name " Shengqi Tower . "
Under the south eaves hangs a large plaque inscribed with the words " Shengqi Tower " by Mei Qizhao, the Qing Dynasty's top scholar. Upstairs, displays include the chess table depicting Zhu Yuanzhang and Xu Da, wax figures, replicas of dragon robes and sashes, antique jades, ivory carvings, mahogany tables and chairs, and calligraphy and paintings by famous figures. A couplet in official script by female calligrapher Xiao Xian, " Zhongfu founded the city, Shicheng played chess , " is the perfect finishing touch.
