Pewter and Prestige: Discovering Royal Selangor’s Legacy

I recently visited the Royal Selangor Visitor Centre in Kuala Lumpur, and honestly, it was way more interesting than I expected. The best part? Entrance is completely free, and on weekdays, it’s nice and quiet, perfect if you want to explore at your own pace. If you’re planning to go on a weekend, it’s probably best to call ahead and make a reservation.

The place offers a free guided tour. They walk you through the history of Royal Selangor and show how their famous pewter products are made. From melting the metal to shaping and polishing it, seeing the whole process up close was pretty eye-opening.

They also have two hands-on workshops. The first one is called The School of Hard Knocks (RM80 for 30 mins), where you use traditional tools to make your own pewter dish. You even get to keep the dish, along with a cool apron and a certificate. The second one, The Foundry (RM180 for an hour), lets you design and create a pewter accessory from scratch.

Their store features some exclusive items you can only buy at the visitor centre. Perfect for gifts or something to remember the visit by.

All in all, it was a really cool experience. If you’re ever in the area, it’s definitely worth checking out.
