A Tropical Rainforest Right in the Heart of KL

The KL Forest Eco Park, also known as the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, is the oldest tropical rainforest in Malaysia and the only one that still exists right in the middle of Kuala Lumpur. It’s been gazetted as a permanent forest reserve since 1906 and today covers about 9.3 hectares. Think of it as the green lungs of KL — the perfect spot to escape the city buzz and enjoy some fresh air surrounded by nature.

When I first came here, I wasn’t too sure how to get to the entrance. Google Maps led me on a super long walk. Later I found out the easiest way is actually via Bukit Nanas Monorail Station, where you can walk past Shangri-La Hotel to reach the upper entrance near the KL Tower. For your info, there are two main entrances: one at the bottom through the Bukit Nanas Forestry Information Centre, and another at the top, near the KL Tower car park.

Tickets are really affordable. Adults pay RM10, while kids (6–12 years old) and seniors (60 and above) only pay RM1. Payments can be made by cash or card. The park is open daily, including weekends and public holidays, from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Just note that the ticket counter closes earlier, around 4:30 PM, so it’s better to come a bit early.

One of the main highlights here is the 200-meter canopy walk, a hanging bridge that lets you stroll above the trees while enjoying rainforest views from the top. If you prefer something more relaxed, you can take the Forest Trail for a light hike while learning about the plants and wildlife. There’s also a visitor center where you can pick up info about the forest’s history, ecology, and conservation efforts.

The park is rich in biodiversity with plenty of plant and animal species unique to Malaysia. Honestly, the trails here aren’t too challenging, so it’s a great spot even if you’re bringing kids along. It’s a fun way to get that “into the jungle” experience — without ever leaving the city.
