Commons at The Old Court House

It was a pleasure to discover the Commons by Food Journal Group on my last day in Kuching. It’s a cafe and restaurant located within the the Old Court House. For someone who loves history, this place was perfect, it had a contemporary style mixed with old world charm.

The Old Court House was commissioned by Charles Brook in 1868 and completed in 1874. It remained the administrative centre for Sarawak until 1973.

At Commons, you can have a relaxing lunch, enjoy a cool ice lemon tea or a fine meal set within a stylish restaurant furnished with an eclectic mix of vintage furniture.

I highly recommend the Pan Seared Seabass (RM38), freshly caught, simply seasoned with salt and pepper and cooked to perfection with a light crisp. The Avocado and Grilled Corn Salad (RM 28) tossed with quinoa, fresh leaves, mango and ricotta was exquisite. I will certainly try out the other dishes the next time. They offer a delightful selection of cakes too. This is a must visit cafe if you are in Kuching
