One of the favorite hiking trails for locals in Kuching is the challenging trek up Mount Santubong. Rising 810 meters above sea level, the trail offers a rewarding experience, with lush rainforest, diverse wildlife, and stunning views of the South China Sea. The hike starts with a moderate incline but quickly turns steep, requiring ropes and ladders to navigate rocky terrain. I almost felt half-dead tackling the tough sections, but the hidden waterfalls and tropical birds along the way kept me going. Reaching the summit, with its breathtaking panoramic views, brought an overwhelming sense of satisfaction, making every step worth it.
