Huishan Temple, located on Xiuzhang Street in Huishan, was built during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. Its predecessor was the Lishan Thatched Cottage, founded during the Liu Song Dynasty of the Southern Dynasties . Because of its scenic location, Huishan Temple's reputation has long been renowned, along with its reputation as the second-largest spring in the world.
As early as the Tang and Song dynasties, Huishan Temple enjoyed a period of uninterrupted worship and prosperity. The temple encompassed the entire Yugong Valley and Jichang Garden, boasting 1,048 monks' quarters. Throughout history, poets and scholars, as well as emperors and generals, have stopped at Huishan Temple while passing through the Grand Canal.
Huishan Temple still retains historical sites and buildings including the ancient Huashan Gate, the Tang and Song Dynasty stone pagodas, the Vajra Hall, the Xianghua Bridge and the Sun and Moon Pond, the Golden Lotus Bridge and the Golden Lotus Pond, the Imperial Stele Pavilion, the Tingsong Stone Bed, the ancient ginkgo tree, the Datong Hall, the Zhulu Mountain House and the Yunqi Tower.
