Kumamoto Day 3: A dreamlike journey through Takachiho Gorge and the aftertaste of a local izakaya

On the third day in Kumamoto, from the moment I stepped into Takachiho Gorge, I was deeply immersed in this fairyland-like world. Walking along the quiet trail towards the canyon, the surrounding trees cast dappled light and shadows, while the magnificence of the canyon is reflected on the water. The boating experience is definitely an irreplaceable memory of this trip - the boat slowly shuttles between the two banks, and when you look up you can see the vertical cliffs. The sound of flowing water and birdsong interweave into a natural melody, as if everything has stopped, making you forget about time.

In such an atmosphere, I deeply felt the subtle connection between man and nature, especially when the waterfall in front of me rushed down and the splashing water brushed my face, adding a sense of mystery and surprise to the journey. This peaceful and stunning feeling cannot be fully captured by a photograph. Only by experiencing it in person can you appreciate its pure beauty.

After leaving Takachiho Gorge, the nearby cave shrine became another surprise. After passing through the stone steps of the cave, what comes into view is the shrine dedicated to the gods. The sacred atmosphere makes people slow down their pace and feel awe in their hearts.

Then we came to Kunimi-no-Oka and looked out over the endless valley. The magnificence before our eyes was breathtaking. Standing on the top of the mountain, you seem to be able to overlook the whole world and feel the vastness and power of nature.

After finishing the day's journey, we chose to go to a local izakaya for dinner in the evening. Sit at the small wooden table and enjoy the aroma of charcoal grill and fresh sashimi. Each dish is full of local flavor and will leave you with an endless aftertaste.
