Colorful Yunnan

Impressions of Yunnan
A four-day trip from Chongqing to Yunnan offered a refreshing contrast—cool breezes replacing the fiery heat, creating a gentle, leisurely vibe that was utterly delightful.

Gentle and Friendly Kunming
Arriving in Kunming by train at 11 PM, the post-rain air was crisp and invigorating. Taxis lined up orderly, and the hour-long ride from South Station to downtown was filled with the driver's warm hospitality. Staying at Hanting Hotel in the city center, we found ourselves on an old cobblestone street, still damp from the rain, exuding a homely charm. The hotel room was spotless, with thoughtful touches like small slippers for kids.

Exploring Old Streets
Morning brought clear skies—perfect for light sweaters or short sleeves. A 3-minute walk led us to Kunming's Old Street, marked by a bronze city map. Narrow and bustling, the street was lined with shops selling local specialties. Qianwang Street, more of an alley, blended ancient legends with trendy spots. The highlight? Mushroom restaurants! We chose "Jun Gu" (Love at First Sight with Mushrooms), savoring a rustic chicken soup simmered with matsutake, morels, and bamboo fungus for 15 minutes—a fragrant, mouthwatering delight. For the daring, "Shou Jian Qing" offers a mildly toxic but exquisite flavor.

Haigeng Park
In the afternoon, Haigeng Park greeted us with the stunning Western Hills and glimmering Dian Lake. Speedboats and jet skis beckoned, offering thrills and a taste of freedom. Sadly, summer meant no seagulls at Haigeng Dam, just sunshine and serene landscapes.

Yunnan Ethnic Village
This cultural hub showcases 25 ethnic groups' traditions and performances. Though we arrived late, we caught two acts: the Hani people's love songs and the Nu people's daring "Knife Mountain" show—both uniquely captivating.

Other stops like Cuihu Park, Yunnan Military Academy, and the "Paper-Thin Building" were quick visits, pleasant but less memorable.

Romantic Dali
Nestled between Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake, Dali is a haven for lovers—azure skies, emerald waters, and a slow-paced life steeped in romance.

Shangguan Flowers
What blooms here? Enchanting yet toxic datura. Nearby, Tianlong Cave (a filming site for "Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils") and Butterfly Spring's legendary beauty await.

Xiaguan Winds
Erhai's breezes—fresh, moist, and invigorating—whisper through the air.

Cangshan Snow
Stretching 43 km with 19 peaks and 18 streams, winter snow gives way to summer clouds: a "hat" on the summit means rain; a "belt" around the waist means none.

Erhai Moon
By day or night, Erhai charms. Waves lap gently as seabirds glide. Set up a mic, speakers, and fairy lights for an impromptu beach concert. Dawn often finds the moon still hanging as visitors revel.

Stay near Longkan Dock for sunrise views and slow living. Dali Ancient Town offers history and quaint bridges, though traffic can be frustrating.
