Although it's a little late, we'd like to introduce you to the mysterious scenery that can be seen in the winter at Lake Akan in Hokkaido. The hot spring town, or Ainu culture. Lake Akan is famous for its marimo in the summer, but in the winter, the entire surface of the lake freezes over (for a very short period before snow accumulates), making it the only place in Japan where you can enjoy an extraordinary environment.
Lake Akan has a spring called Yutsubo in the lake, and when the bubbles of hot water that rise from there freeze, you can observe mysterious ice bubbles.
Or, the lake is repeatedly melted and frozen by the hot water, creating a mysterious landscape like the one in the photo.
[Caution]
It is dangerous to be on the lake. There are places where the ice is thin, and it is difficult for an amateur to see. Also, the temperature in winter can reach minus 20 degrees, and falling through the ice can be life-threatening. When observing, be sure to visit through a local guide.
