The "Bamboo Forest Path," a popular tourist spot that represents Arashiyama, is a 400-meter path that runs from Nonomiya Shrine through the north gate of Tenryu-ji Temple to Okawachi Sanso.
It is said to have been a villa area for aristocrats during the Heian period, and even on sunny days the bamboo forest provides a comfortable shade. The number of tourists increases dramatically from around 10am, so if you want to take a leisurely stroll along the path with few people, head there before 9am!
