Encounter the cherry blossoms in full bloom in Arashiyama🌸

#Great Spring Destinations in Japan and Korea

"Arashiyama," one of Kyoto's famous scenic spots, is the name of a 382-meter-high mountain located in western Kyoto. The term "Arashiyama" refers to the surrounding mountains and the area at the foot of "Arashiyama."

The Arashiyama area boasts the Oie River and the "Three Mountains of Arashiyama": Matsuoyama, Arashiyama, and Udake. To the east, there are mountain ranges like Kokurayama and Kameyama. Due to its basin-like topography, Arashiyama experiences significant temperature swings, with hot and humid summers and bitterly cold winters. This makes Arashiyama's autumn foliage incredibly beautiful, making it a popular spot for viewing autumn leaves.

Cherry blossoms are also cultivated in many areas, making Arashiyama a popular cherry blossom viewing spot.

Arashiyama boasts approximately 1,500 cherry trees, primarily Somei Yoshino and Yamazakura. The Somei Yoshino is the most widely cultivated Japanese cherry blossom, with five single, pale red petals that gradually fade to white when in full bloom.

Besides cherry blossom viewing, Arashiyama also boasts numerous attractions, including the World Heritage Tenryu-ji Temple, Togetsukyo Bridge, the Hozugawa Gorge, Nakanoshima Park, and the bamboo forest. The popular Sagano Sightseeing Train is also popular.

Arashiyama's natural scenery and historical architecture are imbued with Japanese-inspired landscapes and culture, especially around Togetsukyo Bridge and the shopping district.
