[Kyoto Prefecture] Come face to face with the impressive Afro Buddha statue!

At the Jodo sect's head temple, Konkai-Komyoji, is enshrined the Goko Shii Amida Buddha, which is different from regular Amida Buddhas in that it has a very large head of hair (rahotsu) that covers its head. It is a rare stone Buddha statue carved from stone that is thought to have been made around the mid-Edo period. It is often mistaken for a Jizo statue, but it is not.
It is in a rather difficult location to find. Look for the three-story pagoda and Gokuraku Bridge, so be sure to visit.
