A museum that will be passed on to the next generation

#springwander

Opened as the Imperial Kyoto Museum in 1897. It houses about 14,600 items in the collection, including Japanese and oriental antiques and buried cultural properties, focussing on works of art and cultural properties that have deep ties to Kyoto. Among them, sculptures such as archeological relics, ceramics, and Buddha statues, paintings from the Heian period to the early modern period, calligraphy traces, dyeing and weaving, lacquerwork, metalwork, etc., exhibits and special exhibitions of arts and crafts with the history of Kyoto are held.

There are 2 exhibition spaces. The first is the red brick retro Western-style building "Meiji Kotokan".
