Maruyama Park, Kyoto

#cherryblossom25
Maruyama Park during cherry blossom season feels like stepping into a historic painting. Nestled right in the heart of Kyoto near Yasaka Shrine, this spot is one of the most iconic hanami destinations, and for good reason. I visited just as the famous shidarezakura (weeping cherry tree) hit full bloom — and wow, it lived up to the hype. The tree is lit up at night and draws crowds, but it’s totally worth it for that surreal, glowing effect. During the day, the park is alive with families, couples, and groups of friends enjoying picnic spreads under the blossoms. I joined a local hanami gathering thanks to some friendly Kyoto students — the vibe was welcoming and very "old Japan meets modern chill." What really stuck with me was the way the park blended with the surrounding temples and old streets. It was a magical stop on my #cherryblossom25 trip and an unforgettable Kyoto moment.
