Fushimi Inari Taisha and its Senbon Torii are must-visit attractions

Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto is undoubtedly one of the most popular destinations for first-time visitors to Japan.
To fully enjoy it during the sakura season, when Kyoto is bustling with tourists, it’s best to go early in the morning to be among the first to ascend the magnificent Mount Inari. The trails leading to the mountain’s summit, passing through the stunning orange gates (Senbon Torii), stretch approximately 4 kilometers. The hike can be challenging, especially in hot weather, but the experience is absolutely worth it.
Take in the breathtaking views at the crossroads and immerse yourself in the tranquil atmosphere of countless rock altars adorned with vibrant green moss.
My personal favorite features are the kitsune statues, mystical fox messengers of Kami Inari, which are scattered throughout the shrine.

Fushimi Inari Taisha is open 24 hours a day and free to enter, so make sure not to miss it.
