Eikandō Review – The Temple of Contentment in Orange Red
Went to Eikandō in mid-November. The area was filled with so many red leaves that it took my breath away. It was more than the pictures on social media could describe.
🍁 Why did I go?
• Eikandō has over 3,000 maple trees, making it one of the great spots to see autumn leaves in Kyoto.
• There is also a nighttime illumination held in the middle of the evening at the end of the year — so spectacular that many say it is the best in the city.
🌤 Daytime – Red Smoke
Walking through the Karamon Gate covered in red leaves Inside, you will see the Tsuten-kyo Bridge spanning the pond, which reflects the beautiful red leaves.
Tips
• Best time to visit: 9:00 in the morning and 17:30–20:30 when the lights are on
• Admission fee: 1,000 yen during the daytime during autumn, 600 yen at night (separate times)
• Shoes: You need to wear good shoes because there are many slopes, ramps, and stairs.
• Avoid crowds: If you come in the evening, don't come on the first round. It's better to come in the morning or late in the evening.
• Take beautiful photos: Use the reflection underwater to add color to the leaves. If you want to take beautiful photos at night, try bringing a beanbag or a small tripod.
