Entering the Gekkeikan Okura Memorial Museum is like stepping back in time to the sake brewing era of a century ago. The wooden warehouses, old brewing equipment, and Japanese gardens all retain a rich nostalgic atmosphere. The museum details the sake-making process, from rice steaming and koji making to fermentation and aging. Every step reveals the meticulous dedication and perseverance of the craftsmen. After the tour, the most anticipated event is the sake tasting. From sweet to spicy, the flavors are distinctly layered. The smooth taste and the lingering aroma of rice deepened my understanding of the charm of sake. You can also take home a small sake tasting glass as a souvenir. I highly recommend planning a day for this visit when visiting Kyoto.
