Step Into Old Kyoto Magic: Sannenzaka, Ninenzaka & Yasaka Pagoda 🌟🍃🏮
Wander into Kyoto’s storybook past where stone-paved lanes, hidden teahouses, and the iconic Yasaka Pagoda create the perfect backdrop for time-travel vibes. By day, these streets buzz with travelers—but if you crave serenity, come at night for a truly peaceful experience.
For your itinerary, start with an early evening stroll down Sannenzaka & Ninenzaka (2-chome, Masuya-cho, Higashiyama-ku).
The area is open all day, but the real magic begins after dark: the crowds thin and gentle lantern light bathes the lanes, inviting calm exploration and dreamy photos.
Next, wander over to Hōkan-ji Temple—Yasaka Pagoda (清水八坂上町388, opening hours 10:00–15:00). If you’re visiting outside its open hours, the iconic five-story pagoda makes for amazing exterior shots, especially with empty streets at night. The soft glow from street lamps against the pagoda silhouette is pure Kyoto romance—prime “insta-worthy” magic!
Tips: Gion is truly tranquil at night, so combine your nighttime strolls through Sannenzaka/Ninenzaka with the atmospheric old streets of Gion for an extended, crowd-free walk.
Skip peak daytime hours when it’s packed; the vibe is best after dusk. Bring a light jacket—it can get cool after sunset.
Precautions: These slopes are ancient and can be slippery; wear non-slip shoes and watch your step, especially after rainfall!
