The best walking route to enjoy both culture and nature in Arashiyama, Kyoto🌸

Arashiyama is one of Kyoto's most popular tourist destinations. A visit to Arashiyama offers not only breathtaking natural beauty that changes with the seasons, but also a glimpse into numerous historical buildings brimming with Japanese charm.
- From JR Kyoto Tambaguchi Station, take the Arashiyama train to JR Umahori Station. While waiting for the train, enjoy the rural scenery surrounding Umahori Station and the local souvenir shops within the station. We even watched the train enter the station from a distance. The Arashiyama train is a nostalgic experience, running along the banks of the Hozukyo Gorge, offering stunning views of the valley and forests along the way. If you're interested, you can get off at Hozukyo Station and go rafting (though reservations are required and weather conditions may affect cancellations). Once in Arashiyama, disembark to explore the bamboo forest. The Sagano Bamboo Forest Trail runs from Nonomiya Shrine, past the north gate of Tenryuji Temple, and continues towards Okochi Sanso. This approximately 400-meter walking path is known as the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest Path. At the end of the street, you'll reach Kyoto's Arashiyama Street, home to dozens of shops, including Japanese sundries, gourmet restaurants, and souvenir shops.

The street ends at Arashiyama's Togetsukyo Bridge, a scenic stroll worth taking if you have time. Near the bridge, there's a famous coffee shop, especially in the winter, where a hot cup of coffee is truly heartwarming. Finally, take the train back to Osaka from Arashiyama Station to complete your day!

To take the Arashiyama train, make a reservation in advance. Choose your travel date, route (e.g., "Saga to Kameoka" or "Kameoka to Saga"), and number of people.

Select your desired train from the list. Select your car and seat from the seat map.
