Autumn in Kyoto at Kinkaku-ji - The Filming Location of Ikkyu

Kinkaku-ji is famous because of the anime Ikkyu and is one of the must-visit spots in Kyoto. It is named Kinkaku-ji because its Shariden (reliquary hall) is covered in gold leaf.

Surrounded by water and small pine trees, the building itself truly shines with golden brilliance, sparkling under the sunlight, and its reflection in the pond is also beautiful. At the top of the building is a small phoenix, which in Japan symbolizes the imperial family. The architecture of Kinkaku-ji also shows influences from Tang Dynasty buildings in China, featuring a pavilion-style structure. Kinkaku-ji was burned down by a monk in 1950 and later rebuilt.

The entire scenic area is not large and can be toured in about 40 minutes. Besides Kinkaku-ji itself, there is also the Rikusho Pine—a century-old pine tree named for its shape resembling a small boat. Although the area is small, the garden scenery is quite complete. Walking behind the hall, you can see a rock garden, strange stones, and a small waterfall (really small), a pavilion for resting and drinking tea, and at the exit of the scenic area, there is the Fudo Hall.

Transportation: Kinkaku-ji is located in the northern part of Kyoto city. You can take bus number 12 or 59 and get off at the Kinkaku-ji stop.

The entrance ticket to Kinkaku-ji is an omamori (protective charm) that contains many good blessings. Children can get one for academic success, elderly people can get one for good health, and so on.

The photos were taken on December 4th, so those who want to chase the autumn leaves can use this timing as a reference.
