🗓️ Itinerary:
Arashiyama-Dori → Togetsukyo Bridge → Kinkaku-ji Temple → Nijo Castle
📝 Notes:
This morning, we headed to Arashiyama for a stroll. We chose the historic Arashiyama tram, the Arashiden, for the outbound journey. Besides its charming interior design, the scenery is also stunning, making it a highly recommended option!
After arriving at Arashiyama-Dori, we took a photo stop by the famous Togetsukyo Bridge. We were lucky enough to see the autumn leaves in full bloom in early December, and the scenery was truly breathtaking.
In the afternoon, we headed to Kinkaku-ji Temple. Although it wasn't our first visit, I was still full of anticipation. The gold-leafed pavilion and crimson maple leaves dotting the grounds remained captivating even in the drizzling weather. I hope to return to see the Golden Pavilion in the snow next time!
In the evening, at the urging of our travel companions, we visited Nijo Castle in downtown Kyoto. While it's usually open until the afternoon, we happened to have a limited-time exhibition on the day of our visit, giving us the opportunity to visit in the evening. I had hoped to visit the limited-time Honmaru Palace, but I was surprised to find that I had to pay an additional entrance fee in addition to the exhibition ticket, so I decided against it. The Ninomaru area within the city center featured various light projections, simple vendors, and the blooming maple leaves at night. I was already a bit tired of seeing the maple leaves all day, but I didn't expect the leaves illuminated at night to take on a whole new dimension. It was truly blissful.
