Uji, a small but warm city in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, is renowned for its matcha and its peaceful, authentic Japanese atmosphere. The people are lovely and relaxed, making it easy to explore without the need for a bus. It's one of our favorite cities in Japan.
Uji is located between Kyoto and Nara, just a 20-30 minute train ride from Kyoto, making it a popular destination for visitors to the area.
Uji is nationally famous for its Uji Matcha.
Things to do in Uji
1. Byodoin Temple
The symbol featured on the Japanese 10 yen coin.
The temple grounds are very peaceful, perfect for strolling and taking photos in the traditional Japanese atmosphere.
2. Ujibashi Bridge
Connecting the two banks of the Uji River, the sunset view is stunning. A stroll through the fresh air is a truly captivating experience.
3. Green Tea Street
This narrow street between Uji Station and Byodoin Temple is lined with shops selling green tea, matcha sweets, and authentic, rich matcha ice cream.
