Lake Biwa is the largest freshwater lake in Japan. There are several towns on the shores of Lake Biwa, including Otsu City, Kusatsu City, Hikone City, Nagahama City and Takashima City. Among them, Otsu City, Kusatsu City and Hikone City are relatively close to Kyoto. JR Railway has frequent trains.
This time I chose Hikone Castle, a town far away from Kyoto. Depart from Gate 2 of Kyoto Station, take the Maihara Line and get off at Hikone Station. The journey takes about 50 minutes.
Hikone Castle is a quiet town, without the bustle and activity of Kyoto, where you can take a breath and experience the slow pace of life.
There is a first-class river in the town - Inukami River. Walking along the river, looking at the cherry blossom trees and feeling the cool spring breath, gradually, the open Lake Biwa appears in front of you.
