The Church of the Good Shepherd (Lake Tekapo)

Nestled on the shores of Lake Tekapo in New Zealand's South Island, the Church of the Good Shepherd is a small stone church that captivates travelers from around the world. With the turquoise blue lake as its backdrop and the Southern Alps stretching into the distance, the church blends seamlessly into a picturesque, almost painting-like landscape.

Built in 1935 as a place of prayer and remembrance for shepherds, the church continues to stand quietly through time. Its interior is simple, but its most striking feature is the large window behind the altar, offering a view of Lake Tekapo so stunning it is often described as "a natural stained glass."

During the day, the clear blue sky and lake stand out vividly, while at sunset, the sky is painted in shades of pink and orange. At night, the silhouette of the church against a star-filled sky creates a breathtaking scene. Renowned as a stargazing spot, capturing the Milky Way alongside the church is a dream shot for many travelers.
