Background
Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa is a longstanding getaway in Pantai Cenang, Langkawi—launched in 1989 as the island’s first 5-star resort. The resort is built over 35 acres, hugging a one-kilometre stretch of white sand beach. Its architecture and layout are inspired by the traditional Malay kampung (“village”) style—wooden chalets (raised on stilts), verandahs, timber panels, decorative floral motifs, and the distinctive Bumbung Panjang roof adapted from Kedah Malay heritage.
Why It’s Worth Visiting
Pelangi offers a layered experience where nature, comfort, culture, and recreation coexist. You can relax in one of its 355 rooms or 51 chalets, many with views of gardens, a lake, or the sea, all recently refurbished to modern standards while retaining that warm, rustic charm. The resort’s amenities are generous: two lagoon-style pools, a large Horizon Pool (launched recently), a serene spa, gym, children’s club (KiKi Club), petting zoo, lawns and pathways through tropical gardens. For dining, there are several options—from the Spice Market Restaurant serving Malaysian/local cuisine, beachside and fusion restaurants, to cocktail bars overlooking the sunset. The location is excellent: right on Pantai Cenang, so you get that beach-front access, beach life, and easy access to local shops, entertainment and sunsets.
My Impression
Staying at Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa felt like stepping into a balance of elegance and relaxation. I loved waking up in a wooden chalet, stepping onto the verandah, hearing the palms rustle and feeling the tropical air. The pools—especially the Horizon Pool—were a highlight: sun, water, sky, and views over the sea create a calm luxury. The food was excellent, especially when enjoyed at sunset or under soft evening lights. What stood out most was how the resort doesn’t try to be flashy—it’s more about thoughtful details (architecture, gardens, warm decor, quiet corners) that let you slow down. It’s a place that feels rooted in place and culture while letting you rest fully.
