When visiting the Buddhist holy site of Mount Emei in Sichuan, be sure to take a boat trip to see the Leshan Giant Buddha. This enormous stone Maitreya Buddha, located at the confluence of three rivers, is truly magnificent and is the tallest Buddha in the world!
An ancient saying goes, 'Worship at Mount Emei in the morning, and at Lingyun in the afternoon.' The Leshan Giant Buddha faces Leshan City across the river, and the scenic area consists of Lingyun Mountain, the Mahao Cliff Tomb, Wuyou Mountain, and the Giant Reclining Buddha. You can explore the area on foot, but the best way to see the full view of the Buddha is by taking a boat trip on the river.
When I visited, the weather was misty. Although I couldn't capture the scenery on a sunny day, the overcast weather was quite cool. However, be sure to choose the right season for the boat trip, as navigation is not possible during the dry season. It's recommended to find a guide who understands Buddhist history; otherwise, you might miss out on the deeper meanings behind the sights.
