Guizhou has a village full of life, with markets, health clinics, hair salons, etc. Although it is somewhat commercialized, the prices are entirely acceptable. If you find Qianhu Miao Village too commercialized and Xiashi Ancient Town too quiet, then Zhaoxing Dong Village is definitely a good choice. It is very lively at night, full of human fireworks.
🍽️Food:
- The sour soup pork noodles for breakfast are very delicious, the best sour soup I've had in Guizhou😍.
- The red and white sour soup I had in Kaili didn't taste as good as here.
- The beef noodles at the bus station are half the price of those in the Dong Village, but the taste is average.
- The glutinous rice has green and red headscarf aunts. The green one is moist and soft, with a mix of fat and lean meat; the red one is chewy, with more rice but the meat is drier. The pickles inside are very fragrant.
- On the return trip, I tried the glutinous rice at the passenger station and found that the 3 yuan rice + grilled sausage and fragrant pork were more delicious😋.
- For main meals, we ate at Dongxiangfang. The roasted pork, fried potatoes, and rice wine glutinous rice cakes were all very tasty. The rice was very fragrant, probably steamed after controlling the water. We also bought the secret chili powder for dipping pork from the owner.
👗Clothing:
- There are many 199 photography shops on the road where you can rent clothes for 50. The makeup artist will do a simple hairstyle.
- Choose shops with fewer people and cleaner clothes.
- If you want makeup or photography, you can look around the street for well-made-up ladies or serious photographers and ask them for the shop name.
- I experienced tie-dyeing a small skirt, brought my own white base from online for dyeing for 30. The owner was very nice, patient, and enthusiastic, even helped me wash it for a long time.
🛖Accommodation:
- Most of the homestays are stilted buildings, wooden houses with poor sound insulation. Light sleepers can choose higher rooms or stay outside the Dong Village.
- We stayed in a homestay near the river in the middle of the village. As soon as we entered the homestay, the grandmother who embroidered sachets said "You are here," which felt very warm.
- The owner would pick us up at the entrance of the Dong Village and help us carry our luggage. The landlady would clean and lay the sheets and help us carry our luggage upstairs.
- The room had plenty of hot water, the air conditioner was new, but the toilet room was relatively low, and the roof leaked a bit due to continuous rain.
- In the morning, opening the window, the rain hitting the tiles, and a little cat coming to greet us😸. The randomly booked homestay for a hundred yuan was surprisingly the most cost-effective one I've stayed in Guizhou.
🚄Transportation:
- Take the high-speed train to Congjiang. The passenger center is right next to the high-speed rail station, and it takes just over ten minutes to get to the Dong Village.
- The high-speed rail station is also built with ethnic characteristics.
There are many activities in the village, such as welcoming ceremonies, village singing competitions, bonfire parties, tie-dyeing, etc. Overall, it feels full of fireworks, and the locals are very simple and enthusiastic.
