On this trip, I visited Portugal's famous O Mundo Fantástico da Sardinha Portuguesa (The Fantastic World of Sardines)! 🐟🎠🇵🇹

🛄ㅣTo Lisbon's unique attraction, the land of sardines!
Walking down Rua Augusta in downtown Lisbon, a shop with bright lights and an amusement park-like atmosphere caught my eye.
Upon closer inspection—a giant sardine can pattern, golden decorations, and a glittering signboard with the words:
"O Mundo Fantástico da Sardinha Portuguesa" ✨
At first, I thought, "Is this just a souvenir shop?" But the moment I stepped inside, a completely different world unfolded.

🎡 A Theme Park-Like Interior
The interior of the shop is reminiscent of a circus or amusement park. The ceiling was adorned with colorful lights and flags, and hundreds, if not thousands, of colorful cans of sardines lined the entire wall. Each can was labeled with a different year, allowing me to travel through history from the early 1900s to the present day, as if I were "time traveling." The staff member told me, "Find the sardine of your birth year!" and I found one with my birth year written on it. It felt like both "sardine" and "time" were contained within that small can.

🐟 A Symbol of Portugal
In Portugal, sardines (sardinha) are not just food; they are a symbol of culture and tradition. Especially during the summer festival "Santos Populares," grilled sardines are a popular street food, and sardine designs, reminiscent of this character, can be found throughout Portugal. This shop offers a playful and modern interpretation of this "sardine culture," offering travelers a lighthearted and enjoyable memory.

📸 A photogenic spot and souvenir spot
The colorful canned goods lining the walls were so beautiful, they made for a perfect photo opportunity no matter where you took them. Beyond the canned goods, they also sold a variety of goods, including sardine-shaped magnets, mugs, and postcards. Everything was designed with a sardine theme, making just looking at them bring a smile to my face.
