First glimpse of Litang|The Sky City of Western Sichuan☁️, where every frame looks like a computer wallpaper! Litang sits at over 4000 meters altitude, this highland town hides so many surprises. Follow my route to avoid any pitfalls and detours✨
⛰️Must-visit spots:
📍Changqing Kunco Monastery: One of the three major monasteries in the Tibetan area, with golden roofs and red walls perfect for stunning photos. It’s best to visit in the morning to catch the monks chanting.
📍Qianhu Tibetan Village: A spectacular settlement made up of over 4,000 Tibetan-style houses, with breathtaking light at sunset (free viewing platform behind Renkang Ancient House).
📍White Pagoda Park: A healing spot surrounded by 108 white pagodas where locals spin prayer wheels.
📍Maoya Grassland: A Windows desktop full of wildflowers in July and August. Watch out for prairie dog holes when driving.
📍Gnie Eye: A drone photography paradise! Best to arrive before 10 AM for optimal lighting.
📝My personal tips:
1️⃣ Litang’s high altitude means no washing hair or bathing on the first day! I brought altitude sickness medicine and glucose, which helped a lot.
2️⃣ The Tibetan women in the village are very friendly. If you want to take photos in Tibetan costumes, remember to bargain (normal price 80-120 RMB per set).
3️⃣ The UV rays are very strong! Sunglasses + sunscreen + face mask are a must-have trio.
4️⃣ Most restaurants in town serve Sichuan cuisine. I recommend the butter tea and yak meat buns at "Tsangyang Gyatso Tibetan Restaurant."
🍲Food guide:
▫️Yak meat hotpot: The "Snowy Yak" broth at Litang night market is super fresh.
▫️Butter tea: The salty version freshly made at the barley noodle shop is more authentic.
▫️Barley cakes: 3 RMB each from the mobile stall in front of Renkang Ancient House.
🚗Transportation tips:
✔️The bus from Chengdu Xinnanmen Station takes 12 hours (choose a window seat on the left side).
✔️If driving, plan 3 days to acclimate to the altitude (Kangding - Xinduqiao - Litang in stages).
✔️Litang town is very small; walking and taxis are enough.
💡Hidden experiences:
▪️Go to the farmers’ market on Wednesday/Saturday mornings to find handmade Tibetan accessories.
▪️Wait for the golden sunset on the temple’s back hill in the evening.
▪️Ask locals to guide you to unnamed wild alpine lakes.
Now I truly understand why they say "After Litang, no other plateau compares." This pure feeling is a shock that photos just can’t capture!
