The British museum

Stepping into the gallery, I was met with a towering reconstruction—a tomb from the ancient city of Xanthos in Lycia, now reborn inside the British Museum. It’s not just a building. It’s a portal.
This was my first encounter with Lycian civilization, and I was struck by its boldness. The structure is massive, almost surreal in scale, with sculpted reliefs and architectural details that whisper of a culture both refined and powerful. You can feel the reverence they held for the afterlife, the artistry they poured into memory and monument.
To think this was once part of a sacred city, carved without modern tools, yet preserved and reassembled with care—it’s humbling. The tomb stands like a stone poem, echoing the beliefs, craftsmanship, and legacy of a people I had never known until now.
