In the past, Luang Prabang was the Lan Xang Kingdom

Until the Khmer king gave a Buddha statue to King Fa Ngum.

The Buddha statue was called Phra Bang, which is a Sinhalese art Buddha statue. Then, Prince Fa Ngum
changed the name of Chiang Thong to Luang Prabang.
