The 'Taipa Houses' is one of Macau's eight scenic spots. 'Long Wan' is the old name for Taipa, and 'Po Yun' refers to the Portuguese architectural style in the area, including several Portuguese-style houses along Avenida da Praia, the Carmo Church, and the picturesque surroundings of the park. Among them, the five small green buildings are the most representative.
These buildings were completed as early as 1921 and were once the residences of senior officials, also representing the typical Macanese houses. In 1992, these five buildings were recognized as a group of buildings with architectural value. After thorough restoration, the government converted them into a museum district named 'Taipa Houses-Museum,' which has been open to the public since the end of 1999.
In September 2016, the Macau SAR government restructured and utilized the five buildings of Taipa Houses. From west to east, they are respectively the 'Exhibition Gallery,' 'Creative Casa,' 'Nostalgic House,' 'House for Reception,' and 'House for Reception.' These buildings combine special exhibitions, outdoor performances, and festive activities, making it a stage to showcase the culture of Portuguese-speaking countries and the cultural characteristics of countries around the world.
