#MacauAttractions

A-Ma Temple, also known as Mazu Pavilion and commonly known as Tianhou Temple, is located in front of A-Ma Temple in the Macao Special Administrative Region. It was built in the 33rd year of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1605) and is the oldest existing temple in Macao.

A-Ma Temple is located at the entrance of the Inner Harbour at the western end of the Macau Peninsula, with its back to the mountains and facing the sea. It was a must-pass place for foreign merchant ships to dock in Macau in ancient times. Therefore, in ancient times, A-Ma Temple was also a symbol of Macau. The A-Ma Temple is mainly composed of the main gate, archway, main hall, Hongren Hall, Guanyin Pavilion and Zhengjue Zen Forest. It has stone lions guarding the gate and flying eaves, which are full of Chinese national architectural characteristics. Each building is small and simple, its appearance blends in with the natural environment, and its layout is well-arranged. In addition to the Guanyin Pavilion which enshrines Guanyin, the main hall, Hongren Hall and Zhengjue Zen Temple all enshrine Mazu.

There are many cliff carvings in the A-Ma Temple, all of which are inscriptions of poems and lyrics by officials and celebrities of all dynasties. In particular, the "Foreign Ship Stone" and the "Haijue Stone" are very old. They are two famous strange stones in Macau and are also the objects of poetry and writing by poets and writers of all dynasties. These inscriptions are precious materials for studying the history and culture of Macau.

Friends who come to Macau for tourism, remember to check in at A-Ma Temple! !
