A perfect spot to rest after exploring the Ruins of St. Paul, Mount Fortress, and the Macau Museum.
MacauSoul, founded by a British couple, boasts a unique design that blends Chinese-style tables and chairs with Southeast Asian and Western decor, creating a harmonious ambiance. The bar specializes in wines and malt whiskies, complemented by cheese platters, salads, and sandwiches. Live performances by Western bands add to the atmosphere, and the owner occasionally joins in with impromptu musical performances.
The Ruins of St. Paul is one of Macau's iconic landmarks, the remaining facade of St. Paul's Church after it was destroyed by fire. Visitors can admire the majestic facade and its intricate carvings. Beneath the ruins lies the Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt, showcasing precious Catholic-themed paintings and sculptures selected from various churches in Macau.
Mount Fortress, located near the Ruins of St. Paul on Mount Hill, was built in 1616 to defend against Dutch and pirate attacks. It served as the core of Macau's defense system, covering the eastern and western coasts with a wide network of firepower. Today, it is a significant historical site where visitors can explore century-old cannons and the adjacent Macau Museum. The fortress is an irregular quadrilateral with bastions at each corner, offering panoramic views of Macau like a giant sand table.
The Macau Museum, opened in 1998, is situated on Mount Hill near the Ruins of St. Paul. The museum spans three floors, with two levels built beneath the fortress platform and the top level converted from the original meteorological station, preserving the fortress's architectural style and landscape. The museum showcases Macau's history and social changes, documenting the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures and the development of Macau's unique folk traditions through its rich exhibits.
