Taking a ferry and bus is the main route. First, board the "TurboJET" or "Cotai Water Jet" ferry at either the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Island, or the China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. The ferry ride takes about 1 hour, with a one-way ticket for an economy seat costing HKD 175. Upon arrival at the Macau Outer Harbor Ferry Terminal, take the AP1X bus to the Border Gate, then transfer to the 21A bus and alight at the "Coloane Oil Depot" stop. From there, you’ll need to walk approximately 15 minutes to reach Our Lady of Sorrows Village. The total bus travel time is around 1.5 to 2 hours.
For budget-conscious travelers, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and bus option is recommended. Take the shuttle bus from the Hong Kong Port (HKD 65 during the day, HKD 115 at night) to cross the bridge. After arriving at the Macau Port, transfer to the AP1X bus to the Border Gate, then switch to the 21A bus to reach the destination. Note that the 21A bus runs infrequently (approximately every 30-60 minutes), so it’s advisable to check the schedule in advance to avoid missing the bus.
Upon arrival, you can visit the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, which features a distinct architectural style compared to churches on Macau’s main island. The interior is uniquely decorated. Nearby, the Coloane Lighthouse requires a climb up a slope; if you’re physically able, you can enjoy panoramic sea views from the top. The village retains traces of Hakka culture and includes a rehabilitation center and a café where you can take a break. Friendly reminder: As the attractions are located in a remote area, it’s best to visit during daylight hours and plan your return bus schedule in advance to avoid being stranded.
