Walking through the steps of a Hobbit in Hobbiton

Hobbiton is about 2-3 hours drive from Auckland and can be done as a day trip on the way to Rotorua. Visiting in spring is great with a smaller crowd and beautiful weather.

The initial Hobbiton set was made only for filming and torn down after the Lord of the Rings movies. It was then rebuilt for the filming of The Hobbit with permanent materials and is now a great attraction for fans of the movies.

The tour in Hobbiton will take about 2 hours where the guide brings you around and shares details on the filming and the set. The tour ends with a drink at the Green Dragon Inn and if you choose to book the combo with lunch, you'll also get to experience a buffet lunch in Hobbiton.
