On the second morning of my summer trip to Medan, I visited the State Museum of North Sumatra — a cultural gem that offers deep insight into the region’s rich heritage. One of the highlights was the impressive Makara, a mythological sea creature that stands out with its intricate detail.

The museum also houses extensive collections of traditional wood carvings, showcasing the artistry of various ethnic groups in Sumatra. I was fascinated by the life-sized replicas of traditional homes, daily life scenes, and human activities, which gave a vivid picture of the local culture and history.
