Longteng Broken Bridge

The Miaoli Longteng Broken Bridge (also known as Yutengping Broken Bridge) is a county-designated historic site located in Sanyi Township, Miaoli County. Built in 1907 during the Japanese colonial period, it was originally the highest-altitude and largest-span brick arch railway bridge on the Taiwan Trunk Line. Constructed with red bricks and granite without the use of reinforced steel, the bridge showcases the engineering excellence of its time. In 1935, the Guandaoshan Earthquake caused severe damage to the bridge, leaving only its majestic piers as remnants. The 1999 921 Earthquake further caused partial collapse of the piers, making it a historical landmark that bears witness to two major earthquakes in Taiwan's history. Today, along with Shengxing Station, it is a popular attraction on the Old Mountain Line. The remaining brick arch structures, set against lush greenery and tung blossoms, exude a poignant beauty.
