Escape to Aso 🌿 Stunning Grasslands

📍Kusasenrigahama,Aso,Kumamoto is definitely one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited in Kyushu! 💚

Even though the sun was quite strong, the cool breeze made the weather surprisingly comfortable. I ended up taking so many photos for my instagram! 📸

The lush green grass, the shimmering reflections on the small ponds, and the deep green mountains in the background make the scenery absolutely breathtaking. It’s so refreshing and soothing to the eyes and the soul 🌿

To the left, you can spot Mount Aso, an active volcano. On the day I visited, there was an eruption warning, so we couldn’t get closer. But honestly, just seeing it from afar was already so impressive! It’s the perfect place to relax, unwind, and give your tired mind a little break. 🫶

Around the area, there are adorable horses walking around 🐎 You can even ride them or take photos, but there’s an additional fee (not included in the tour).

After exploring, there are plenty of food options nearby — from restaurants and souvenir shops to grilled horse meat skewers, which are quite famous here! If you’re feeling adventurous, you must try them! The food court has window seats with amazing views of the mountains and grasslands — perfect for a relaxing meal. 🥢

I tried both grilled horse meat and horse sashimi, and I was pleasantly surprised! The sashimi’s texture and taste are somewhat similar to raw fish sashimi, but with a unique flavor of its own. Definitely worth a try! 🐴

🚗 Getting there

I joined a 1-day tour booked via Trip.com from Hakata station, and it was totally worth it! Super convenient, no need to drive, and they even gave us free Aso milk (one bottle per person 🥛). If you’re planning a trip to Kyushu without a car rent, I highly recommend booking a tour. It saves time, energy, and lets you just enjoy the experience!
