A moss-covered shrine located on Takiyama

I went to Takijinja Shrine (Mino City, Gifu Prefecture), where the approach and grounds are surrounded by tall cedar trees!

The torii gates, Komainu, and stone steps are covered in thick moss, and the sunlight filtering in through the gaps in the trees was fantastic.

The shrine is located in the mountains of Otogari, on the northwestern edge of Mino City, at an altitude of about 420m.

There was an interesting explanation on the information board about the history of Takijinja Shrine.

"The reason there is no offering box in the precincts is that it was once placed there, but then a children's plague broke out, so it was lost again, and there is a custom that offerings placed at the shrine are always given to children, who then use them up."

The offerings are there for children to use up, and it was a heartwarming shrine⛩️☺️
