Today, we set out to visit Katsuo-ji Temple, a place frequently shared by friends on travel apps, which inspired us to mark it as a must-visit destination.
Getting there is quite straightforward if you're driving. The route includes some uphill and downhill curves, so drive cautiously. It happened to rain today, and we were soaked at first. However, the rain eventually stopped, and the evening sunlight beautifully illuminated the pagoda and daruma dolls, creating a truly stunning scene.
The temple grounds are expansive, and if you take your time exploring, it typically takes about 2-3 hours. After purchasing the entrance ticket, staff will provide a postcard for you to collect stamps at various points around the temple. In the end, you'll have a daruma-themed image as a keepsake (ours got soaked).
The temple is called the "Victory Temple" because daruma dolls symbolize triumph. Most visitors come to pray, renting a daruma doll, writing their name on it, and making a wish. They then leave the doll at the temple. If their wish comes true, they return to rent a larger daruma as a gesture of gratitude.
