Xingkai Lake is located in Mishan, Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province. It was once the largest freshwater inland lake in China, even larger than Qinghai Lake. After the signing of the Sino-Russian Treaty of Beijing in 1860, it became a border lake between the two countries, with two-thirds of it allocated to Tsarist Russia.
Xingkai Lake consists of two lakes, separated by a natural lake ridge about 1 kilometer wide, which is also known as S201. The road conditions on this route are generally average, with frequent water-damaged sections. However, the dense forests on both sides form a natural green tunnel, which is very beautiful in summer.
Xingkai Lake has many marshes, so the lake water is very turbid. Especially in the larger Xingkai Lake, the shore has fine sand and beach bathing areas, and the waves rolling up on the shore are just like those at the seaside. The smaller Xingkai Lake is relatively calm, with large wetlands and many birds.
Xinkailiu Scenic Area is the central scenic area of Xingkai Lake, with a viewing platform that resembles a sailboat. From there, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery of both the large and small Xingkai Lakes. The best lighting is after 4 PM. There is a pier by the lake where you can take a boat ride; the beach bathing area on the opposite side allows you to enjoy the sun, sand, and 'waves.'
Viewing platform ticket: 10 yuan/adult
Opening hours: 8:30-17:00
In fact, the scenery on both sides of the highway near Xingkai Lake is extremely beautiful, with various shades of green fields.
The local specialty food is Xingkai Lake whitefish.
