When I first visited Chongqing, the first thing that struck me was how three-dimensional this city truly is! Just walking through the cityscape, with its dramatic elevation changes, felt like exploring a theme park. The "Mountain City Walk" (山城步道) is a great way to experience Chongqing's charm.

🏞️ A Cityscape Created by Slopes and Stairs

The walking path weaves its way through old residential areas, markets, temples, and modern buildings. While climbing up and down the stairs is a bit of a workout, the backstreet teahouses you'll encounter around every corner and the vintage posters plastered on the red brick walls give you a sense of the layers of time.

Standing at a viewpoint overlooking the Yangtze River, the misty city resembles a city in the sky. The view of Chongqing bathed in soft morning light is truly worthy of its name, "Mountain City."

Along the walking path, you'll find small douhua (bean paste) shops and old teahouses with rows of bamboo chairs. Locals chat casually as they walk up the hill, and even greet tourists with a smile, "Ni Hao!" We especially recommend the "Tongyuanmen" area. The ancient stone steps and modern architecture blend in uncanny harmony, making it a must-see for photography lovers.

🌆 Evening strolls are exceptional.

As the sun sets, the lights filtering through the staircase railings and gaps in the buildings create a magical atmosphere. A night stroll gazing up at the Yangtze River Cable Car feels like traveling through a city in the sky. The skewers and hot and sour noodles at the small food stalls are also exceptional.
