Mito Station-front Mito San-no-Maru Hotel

Address: 2-1-1 San-no-Maru, Mito City, Ibaraki
Access: Approximately a 3-minute walk from the North Exit of JR Mito Station

Pros:
* Very close to the station, relatively affordable for a location near the station, and close to the shopping mall near the station.
* The room was spacious and not too uncomfortable to walk around with my suitcase unpacked. I was able to unpack my 26-inch suitcase without any problems.
* The bed was comfortable and not too soft.
* The staff was very friendly. I arrived early on my first day and left my luggage before check-in time. When I returned to check in, they said they had already taken my luggage to my room.
* The hot spring baths were very relaxing after a day of walking.
* The window overlooked the Mito Station North Exit Plaza, which had a nice view.

Cons:
* The facilities aren't new. The room door doesn't have a combination lock or proximity card, but rather a very retro key (complete with a large room number plate).
The air conditioning only has three settings: off, low, or high, and there's no way to adjust the temperature.
* The JR exit from Mito Station is via an overpass, so you'll need to find the elevator to exit.

Summary:
Aside from the slightly retro key and air conditioning, there aren't any major drawbacks. I'd definitely consider staying here again if I were to visit Mito again.
