Since I'd come all the way to Miyakojima, I thought it would be a waste not to snorkel in the beautiful ocean, so after some research, I decided on Yoshino Beach.
I drove along Prefectural Route 83, turned left at the stone monument with "Yoshino Beach" written on it on my left, and at the end of the winding road I found a municipal parking lot, where I paid 1,000 yen and parked.
The parking fee included transportation to the beach, showers, and use of the changing rooms.
I didn't use the changing rooms because I was already wearing my swimsuit, but they did shuttle me to the beach in a van.
We rented snorkeling gear from the hotel, but even if you show up empty-handed, you can rent snorkeling gear and umbrellas in the parking lot.
The beach had smooth sand, and although there was some driftwood here and there, it wasn't so bad that I needed water shoes.
The ocean itself was incredibly calm and crystal clear, and it wasn't crowded at all, so I was able to enjoy myself at my own pace.
Unfortunately, I didn't spot any sea turtles, but I was able to swim with plenty of fish, including bright blue tropical fish and clownfish.
There are plenty of coral reefs, and you'll see the fish as you swim through them, so it's best to avoid going during low tide.
I recommend checking the high tide times beforehand.
⚠Unfortunately, there were no lifeguards on the beach, and the only warning signs were at the entrance, so many snorkelers just stood on the coral reefs, taking breaks and taking photos.
To protect this beautiful ocean for years to come, I think it's necessary to either station lifeguards or provide warnings before entering the water.
